Running Subway rides with Garland
Tech hybrid show to bow this June in Boston
|
"Judy Garland in Concert," a tech hybrid that combines the music of a live orchestra with recordings of Garland, preems June 28-29 at Beantown's Symphony Hall, with the Boston Pops playing the tunes.
Restored video footage of Garland will be shown on three large screens during the event. Much of the material is taken from the late performer's 1963-64 TV skein, with her singing voice isolated so it can be backed by the live musicians.
Screens will show Garland performances, as well as home movies, photos and live shots of the orchestra. Segments of patter also will be included.
Running Subway prexy James Sanna is planning an international tour after the Boston launch. "This is meant to be a turnkey evening for existing orchestras," he said.
"Garland" employs technology similar to that of another live/recorded combination show produced by Running Subway, "Sinatra," which ran at the London Palladium for seven months in 2006.
Also on Running Subway's upcoming slate is a stage production of Agatha Christie's "Witness for the Prosecution," which is aiming for a berth on Broadway next year.
